PLACES TO VISIT IN SHIMLA

Named after goddess Shyamala, Shimla is rightly called the ‘Queen of Hill Station. Shimla is an amazing place to visit. There are many scenic places to visit in Shimla. Shimla’s natural beauty, old architectural marvels and pleasant climate have magnetic effect. The diverse flora-fauna with old British colonial era structures hold tourist’s sights. THE MALL:

The Shimla mall is situated in the center of the city. It is the heart of the city. The place consists of many offices and market. So the Mall remains busy with local people and tourists.

CHRIST CHURCH:

Christ Church, the second oldest Church in North India, was constructed after 1857 in Neo-Gothic architectural style. The yellow colored church is beautifully designed with colorful glass on the windows and exquisite mural on the walls.

STATE MUSEUM:

The state museum is wonderful place to visit in Shimla. The museum has large collection of local handicrafts and old colonial relics. The museum preserves old embroideries and paintings of Pahari-Basoli and Kangara style.

THE VICEROY LODGE:

The Viceroy Lodge is situated 2 km away from state museum. It was constructed in 1888 for Viceroy Lord Dufferin. The beautiful colonial era structure is a nice place to visit in Shimla. Now it is known as Rashtrapati Niwas and houses Indian Institute of Advanced studies.

THE GORTON CASTLE:

It’s an old British era building built in 1904. The architecture of the building is based on Neo-Gothic style. Now a days the building is used as department of accountant general.

KALI BARI TEMPLE:

The famous Kali temple Kali Bari is situated near the General Post Office Shimla. It’s a religious and tourist place to visit in Shimla. Durga pooja in Shimla is celebrated in Kali Bari with great enthusiasm.

SANKAT MOCHAN:

The temple of lord Hanuman is situated on Shimla-Kalka road. Its must see place for tourists as its holy place and presents complete view of Shimla city.

GLEN PICNIC SPOT:

Other than temples and view points Shimla has beautiful picnic spots like Glen and Annandale. Glen is a picturesque spot surrounded by beautiful Pine, Deodar, Oak and Poplar trees.

TARA DEVI:

Tara Devi temple is a holy place to visit in Shimla. It is situated on Shimla-Kalka highway.
